Same-day courier to Sheffield

Rapid Despatch delivers to Sheffield by dedicated vehicle, around one hundred and seventy-five miles from our nearest branch. There is no Sheffield depot. We are an independent courier company trading since 2001, with four branches in Hampshire and Berkshire, covering Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, and around 50 drivers.

A city with a charging clean air zone, a working steel and advanced-manufacturing corridor, and hills that catch out drivers who have never been. We have.

The Sheffield skyline

Rapid Despatch runs courier and same-day courier jobs to Sheffield by dedicated vehicle, one hundred and seventy-five miles by road, almost all of it M1.

The drive is around three and a quarter hours on a clear run. You get a fixed price for the whole job before you commit to it. Sheffield operates a Class C Clean Air Zone charging commercial vehicles in the city centre; Any charge that applies to the vehicle on your job is passed through at cost and shown on the quote before you book. Addresses up the hills need a smaller vehicle than the valley sites do.

One hundred and seventy-five miles up the M1

A Sheffield job is usually allocated at our Reading branch, and the controller confirms it on the day. Which vehicle actually runs depends on where the nearest available driver is when you ring.

Three and a quarter hours is realistic on a clear afternoon, and the variability sits in the first hour rather than the last two.

The M1, the valley and the hills

Reading round the M25 and straight up the M1 to Junction 33 or 34, then in on the Parkway or the A631. It is a simple route with the usual M1 pressure points around Luton, Northampton and the Leicester stretch.

Where you are in Sheffield then matters more than usual, because the city is genuinely steep. Lower Don Valley, Attercliffe and Meadowhall sit on the flat by the river and are straightforward for any vehicle. The Advanced Manufacturing Park at Catcliffe comes off the M1 at Junction 33 and never touches the city.

Anything up the hills is a different job. The residential and university areas west of the centre are steep, narrow and often permit-controlled, and a Luton is the wrong vehicle for several of them. If the address is up there, say so and we will send something that fits.

What carries it, and how the price is built

Sheffield work splits cleanly. Advanced manufacturing sends small, valuable, urgent items that go in a small van. The steel and fabrication end sends heavy, awkward things that need a tail-lift and sometimes a forklift at both ends.

What the cover is

Goods in transit insurance is provided. Account holders are covered to £25,000 on a dedicated vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes, and on other services liability is limited to £1,000 per tonne. Higher cover can be arranged before collection, so declare the value when you book. Read the full conditions of carriage

Covered on the same run

South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire are close together and all within reach of the same M1 run. Add them to the same booking rather than raising a second job.

Sheffield courier questions

Only if a charge applies to the vehicle running your job.

More than in most cities. Sheffield is built on hills, and the difference between a flat address in the Don Valley and a steep, narrow one west of the centre is the difference between any vehicle and a small one. Tell us the street rather than just the postcode and we will send something that can actually get there and stop. To see how a quote is built, See what goes into a Sheffield price.

Yes, on the same basis.

Yes, and it is a good deal of what this route carries.

Yes.

It depends on the distance, the vehicle, the timing and the access at both ends. To see how a quote is built, See what goes into a Sheffield price.
