When does a delivery need specialist planning?
When ordinary network handling carries too much risk, because of the deadline, the value, the fragility, the confidentiality, the size, the destination, the regulation or simply what happens if it fails.
Think of a component travelling to prevent downtime, a document that needs a named handover, a delicate prototype that shouldn't go near automated sorting, an exhibition kit with a fixed access slot. "Urgent" on its own doesn't tell a controller anything. If you describe something only as "medical", we still need to know whether it's a device, a document, a medicine or a sample.

On-board international courier
A courier personally accompanies a small urgent consignment on a scheduled flight, collects the item, travels with it and completes or coordinates the handover. It's built for exceptional deadlines where delay costs serious money: critical components, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, sensitive documents. Feasibility comes down to flights, visas, security screening, entry requirements and contents. We confirm the actual itinerary before collection rather than agreeing in principle and finding out at the airport.
CARD 1 OF 8Dedicated UK and European road
A dedicated road vehicle collects and follows your plan without putting the goods into a shared parcel network. On UK same-day work that cuts the transfers and gives you one chain of responsibility. The quote takes in distance, crossings, tolls, driver hours, vehicle, customs and destination access. A dedicated European vehicle isn't automatically quicker than air, but it's often better for bulky goods or a genuine door-to-door requirement.
CARD 2 OF 8Legal and confidential documents
Sensitive documents want direct transport, minimal handling and delivery to a named person. Tell us whether the envelope stays sealed, whether the recipient must show ID, whether you need a signature, and what happens if the person isn't there. "Leave at reception" and "hand to Mrs Patel only" are contradictory instructions, so decide which one you mean before the driver leaves.
CARD 3 OF 8Fragile and high-value goods
Fewer handling points helps enormously. It doesn't replace packaging. Protect the item against vibration, braking and normal road movement, and give us the declared value so we can talk about insurance and liability before booking. A sculpture, a precision instrument and a fragile electronic assembly are all "fragile" and all need loading completely differently.
CARD 4 OF 8Medical and pharmaceutical
Time-critical medical equipment, pharmacy items and healthcare consignments, within our confirmed capability. Send the product description, packaging, temperature requirement, hazard status, value, handover procedure and deadline. A packaged device at ambient temperature is a different job from biological material or a validated cold chain, and we confirm suitability job by job.
CARD 5 OF 8Dangerous goods
Correct classification, packaging, marking, documentation and a route that accepts them. You must disclose the contents and provide safety information such as an SDS. Batteries, chemicals, aerosols and other regulated items face restrictions that differ by road, by air and by destination. Don't leave a classification off to get a standard price. Misdeclared goods create genuine safety risks and enforcement action.
CARD 6 OF 8Exhibition and event delivery
Events bring fixed deadlines, named halls, contractor entrances and short loading windows. A delivery addressed to the venue and nothing else will not reach your stand. Give us the event, hall, stand number, exhibitor contact, contractor access point, booking slot and the build or breakdown schedule. We can book the return collection at the same time.
CARD 7 OF 8Passport and visa documents
Where the issuing organisation permits it, we can discuss secure collection or delivery of passports, visas and supporting documents. These need accurate authorisation, reference numbers, collection windows and identity procedures. We can't override an embassy, consulate or application centre, so confirm third-party collection is permitted and tell us what our courier must present.

Specialist pallet and freight movements
Large or heavy goods may need a dedicated Luton, a tail-lift vehicle, an HGV or an artic.
Vehicle choice follows dimensions, weight, loading, access and how the load is secured. Send the loaded pallet height, footprint, stackability and any centre-of-gravity concerns.
Where there's no forklift, a tail lift and pallet truck can work, on level ground and within the equipment's limits. Check site height, weight and turning restrictions before despatch. An urgent load isn't much use sitting outside a gate the vehicle can't get through.
Any accreditation or driver qualification we rely on has to be current and applicable to those goods, that vehicle and that route. One certificate does not cover every regulated movement, and we'd rather tell you that up front than at the kerbside.
Building a specialist delivery plan
Define the deadline and what rides on it
Tell us why it matters and the latest handover time that still works. A flight departure, a court deadline, a production restart and an exhibition build slot are four different sets of constraints.
Describe the goods precisely
Contents, quantity, dimensions, weight, value, packaging and restrictions. Add photographs and any safety or customs paperwork.
Agree handling and security
Who may handle the goods, whether transfers are acceptable, how they're secured, and whether you need a seal, a named driver or an accompanied service.
Confirm access at both ends
Direct contacts, opening times, security instructions, loading arrangements and named handover requirements. Specialist deliveries usually fail in the last ten metres, and almost always because access wasn't planned.
Define updates and evidence
What tracking, milestone updates and proof of delivery you need. A recipient name and time covers one job; another needs a signature, a photograph or signed paperwork brought back.
Agree the contingency
What happens if a flight changes, a recipient disappears or the vehicle can't use the intended entrance. Not everything is controllable, but an agreed escalation route makes the response much faster.
