Same-day courier to Coventry

Rapid Despatch delivers to Coventry by dedicated vehicle, around ninety miles from our nearest branch. There is no Coventry depot. We are an independent courier company trading since 2001, with four branches in Hampshire and Berkshire, covering Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, and around 50 drivers.

Ninety miles up the M40 for the parts that stop a line. One driver, one vehicle, and a controller who knows Ansty from the ring road.

Canal bridge in Coventry

Rapid Despatch runs courier and same-day courier jobs to Coventry by dedicated vehicle, ninety miles by road on the M40 and the A46.

The consignment stays on one vehicle from collection to delivery, so nobody handles it except the driver carrying it. The drive is around an hour and three quarters on a clear run. You get a fixed price for the whole job before you commit to it. Coventry has no charging clean air zone, so nothing is added for entering the city. Most of what this route carries runs against a build or line schedule somebody else set, so tell the controller if a line has stopped.

Ninety miles, and the kind of job it is for

A Coventry job is usually allocated at our Reading branch, and the controller confirms it on the day. Which vehicle actually runs depends on where the nearest available driver is when you ring.

Coventry generates a particular kind of urgent job. The automotive and engineering supply chain around the city works to build schedules, and a missing part does not delay a delivery, it stops a line. When that is the situation, the cost of the courier stops being the interesting number.

M40 to the A46, and then the ring road

The route is straightforward: the A404(M) to the M40, north to Junction 15 at Longbridge, then the A46 into Coventry. Ninety miles, almost all of it fast road.

Which side of the city you need decides the last part. Ansty Park and the estates out towards the M6 come off the A46 without touching the centre. Whitley and the southern sites come off the A45 or the A46. Prologis Park at Ryton is on the A45 to the south-east.

The centre is the awkward one. Coventry's ring road is a short, tight loop with slip roads that give a driver very little distance to join, leave or change lanes, and it punishes anyone reading a satnav rather than the signs.

If your address is inside the ring road, tell us the junction number you want used. That one detail is worth more here than almost anywhere else we deliver.

What carries it, and how the price is built

Most Coventry work is a small van or a Transit, because the typical consignment is a part rather than a pallet. Luton and tail-lift vehicles are there when the load needs them, and palletised freight is quotable.

Vehicles

What the cover is

On a dedicated vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes anywhere in the UK, account holders are covered to a maximum of £25,000. On other services, liability is limited to the value of the goods, the cost of repairing them, or £1,000 per tonne on gross weight, whichever is lowest.

Higher cover can usually be arranged before collection at an additional charge. A single tooling item or a prototype assembly can be worth more than the standard limit, so declare the value when you book.

Delivering into Coventry

The ring road, and why we ask for a junction number

The other consequence is waiting. There is very little legitimate space to stop inside the ring road, so a city-centre delivery works far better when someone is expecting the driver and can take the goods at the door. Tell us the contact's mobile number and roughly how long the handover will take.

Ansty, Whitley, Prologis and the estates that actually take deliveries

Most Coventry work never touches the centre. Ansty Park sits north-east off the A46 near the M6 and holds advanced manufacturing and engineering occupiers on a secured campus, so expect a gatehouse, a pass and a named recipient rather than a street address. Whitley is the automotive cluster to the south, off the A45 and the A46, and behaves the same way.

Prologis Park at Ryton lies south-east on the A45, and the big distribution units there run booking systems: a vehicle without a slot waits, however urgent the load. Bayton Road at Exhall and the estates around Foleshill and Holbrooks to the north are older trade units, usually with a yard and a gate number that is not the same as the postal address. Middlemarch Business Park sits off the A45 at Siskin Drive, near the airport at Baginton.

For any of them the useful line at booking is the unit number, the estate name, the gate and a mobile for somebody on site.

Line-stop work, and what changes when you say so

Say it is a line stop when you ring. It changes the plan rather than the label. We want the earliest possible collection, a driver running direct, a named contact at the receiving gate and a phone number that reaches whoever is holding the consignment at the other end. We will also tell you honestly if the deadline cannot be met, at the point of quoting rather than after collection.

The universities, the hospital and the airport

Coventry has two universities with very different geography. Coventry University is largely in and around the city centre, inside the ring road, with the access problems that brings. The University of Warwick is not in Warwick at all: it sits on the south-western edge of Coventry off the A429 and Kirby Corner Road, and it is a large campus where a building name and a stores point matter far more than the postcode.

University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire at Walsgrave is off the A4600 near M6 Junction 2, and hospital deliveries need the correct department and the approved goods-inwards route. Please give us a department contact rather than a patient's name.

Coventry Airport at Baginton handles general aviation and freight rather than scheduled passengers, and a delivery there needs the operator or tenant name, not just "the airport".

Covered on the same run

Warwickshire is compact, so a vehicle already running to Coventry reaches all of these without a meaningful detour. Add them to the same booking and they price as drops, not as jobs.
