Same-day courier to Derby

Rapid Despatch delivers to Derby by dedicated vehicle, around one hundred and thirty-five miles from our nearest branch. There is no Derby depot. We are an independent courier company trading since 2001, with four branches in Hampshire and Berkshire, covering Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, and around 50 drivers.

Three heavy engineering supply chains in one city, all of them working to dates that do not move. That is what this route mostly carries.

Rapid Despatch runs courier and same-day courier jobs to Derby by dedicated vehicle, one hundred and thirty-five miles by road on the M1 and the A52.

The consignment travels on one dedicated vehicle from collection to delivery, with no depot stop in between. The drive is around two and three quarter hours on a clear run. You get a fixed price for the whole job before you commit to it. No emissions charge applies to a Derby delivery, because the city runs no charging zone (the seven English zones are listed by GOV.UK). Several of the larger sites here run controlled goods-in.

One hundred and thirty-five miles, and the goods-in problem

A Derby job is usually allocated at our Reading branch, and the controller confirms it on the day. Which vehicle actually runs depends on where the nearest available driver is when you ring.

The drive is the predictable part. Derby's large employers run controlled goods-in regimes, with gatehouse checks, security procedures and in some cases pre-notified vehicle details. A driver who arrives without the paperwork waits, and waiting time on a two-and-three-quarter-hour run is expensive.

M1 to the A52, and which site you are

Reading round the M25, north on the M1 to Junction 25, then the A52 west into Derby. The M1 is the variable: roadworks and peak congestion between Luton and Northampton are what move the arrival time, not the last twenty miles.

The city then splits into distinct working areas. Pride Park sits beside the station and the A52, and is offices and modern units. Raynesway and the Sinfin sites to the south are heavy engineering, with the access controls that go with them.

Burnaston, out to the south west, is closer to the A38 than to the city centre and should be quoted as its own address.

The centre itself is compact and has the usual restrictions on where a van can stop. For anything inside the inner ring road, give us the unloading point rather than the postcode.

What carries it, and how the price is built

Derby work is a small or medium van more often than not: a machined part, a test component, a tooling item. Luton and tail-lift are available, and palletised freight is quotable.

Vehicles

What the cover is

Goods in transit insurance is provided. Account holders are covered to £25,000 on a dedicated vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes, and on other services liability is limited to £1,000 per tonne. Higher cover can be arranged before collection, so declare the value when you book. Read the full conditions of carriage

Covered on the same run

These are reached on the same run into Derby. Burton and Alfreton add little; the Dales add real time, because the roads change character once you are north of the city.

Derby courier questions

The gate, a contact name and a delivery reference, and any vehicle or driver pass that has to be arranged in advance. Several of Derby's larger employers run security-controlled goods-in areas where a driver without the right details waits outside.

About two and three quarter hours of driving on a clear run, one hundred and thirty-five miles on the M1 and A52. What decides your delivery time is usually how fast we reach the collection address, plus anything the M1 is doing between Luton and Northampton.

It depends on the distance, the vehicle, the timing and the access at both ends.

Yes, on the same basis. We can collect anywhere in the UK, normally within 90 minutes, so a Derby collection is quoted the same way as a delivery into the town.

Yes, and it is much of what this route carries.

Mostly to the estates off the A52 and the ring road rather than the city centre. Give us the unit number, the estate name and a gate or goods-inwards contact; on the larger sites the postal address and the delivery entrance are not the same place.

Yes.
