Same-day courier to Bristol

Rapid Despatch delivers to Bristol by dedicated vehicle, around eighty miles from our nearest branch. There is no Bristol depot. We are an independent courier company trading since 2001, with four branches in Hampshire and Berkshire, covering Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, and around 50 drivers.

Eighty miles of A34 and M4, one driver, no depot in the middle. And a city with a Clean Air Zone that charges vans, which is worth knowing before somebody else's vehicle turns up.

Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol

Rapid Despatch runs same-day courier jobs to Bristol by dedicated vehicle, eighty miles by road on the A34, the M4 and the M32.

A dedicated vehicle collects your consignment and drives it straight to the delivery address, with nothing transferred or sorted on the way. The drive is around ninety minutes on a clear run, and what usually decides your delivery time is how quickly we reach the collection address. You get a fixed price before you commit. Bristol runs a Class D Clean Air Zone, the only class that also charges private cars. Any charge that applies to the vehicle on your job is passed through at cost and shown on the quote before you book.

Eighty miles, and what that means for your deadline

A Bristol job is usually allocated at our Basingstoke branch, and the controller confirms it on the day. Which vehicle actually runs depends on where the nearest available driver is when you ring.

Bristol is one of the shorter trunk runs we do, and it is nearly all fast road. Once a vehicle is loaded, ninety minutes is a realistic drive on a clear afternoon, which puts an afternoon collection into Bristol before most businesses close.

A34, M4, M32

Out of Basingstoke on the A34 to Newbury, west on the M4 to Junction 19, then the M32 into the city. It is a clean route with one reliable pinch point, the M4 and M5 interchange at Almondsbury, which backs up at peak and on Friday afternoons.

Where you are in Bristol changes the last ten miles more than the first seventy. Avonmouth and Severnside come off the M5 at Junction 18 and never touch the city at all. Filton, Aztec West and Cribbs Causeway come off at Junction 16.

Both of those are quicker than the centre, and neither is inside the Clean Air Zone.

The city centre, Temple Quay and the harbourside come down the M32, which puts you in the zone and into Bristol's own traffic. Bath, on our Bristol run, has a separate Class C zone of its own.

What carries it, and how the price is built

Most Bristol work goes in a small van or a Transit. Luton and tail-lift vehicles are available where the load needs one, and palletised freight is quotable.

Give us the piece count, the dimensions, the weight and whether either end has a forklift. Avonmouth and Severnside are full of sites that will unload a pallet in two minutes and city-centre offices that cannot take one at all.

Vehicles

What the cover is

On a dedicated vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes anywhere in the UK, account holders are covered to a maximum of £25,000. On other services, liability is limited to the value of the goods, the cost of repairing them, or £1,000 per tonne on gross weight, whichever is lowest.

Higher cover can usually be arranged before collection at an additional charge. If the consignment is worth more than the standard limit, say so when you book, not when something has gone wrong.

Delivering into Bristol

The Clean Air Zone, and which side of it you are on

It covers the central area rather than the city, so almost everything on the northern and eastern fringes sits outside it: Aztec West, Cribbs Causeway, Filton, Emersons Green, Avonmouth and Severnside are all beyond the boundary.

Avonmouth, Severnside and the port

Avonmouth and Severnside make up one of the largest distribution areas in the south west, reached from the M5 at Junctions 18 and 17 rather than through the city at all. The units there are big, the booking systems are real, and a vehicle without a slot waits. Send the site name, the gate, the booking reference and a mobile for someone on the dock.

The Bristol Port Company operates Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Docks, and Portbury on the south side is a major vehicle-import terminal. Anything going into either is a port delivery rather than an industrial one: it needs the terminal, the operator, the reference and whatever driver or vehicle clearance the port requires, settled before the driver sets off rather than at the gate.

Filton, Aztec West and the aerospace corridor

North Bristol is where most of the region's engineering and technology work sits. Filton carries the aerospace cluster, and its occupiers run secured sites with gatehouses, passes and named recipients. Aztec West at Almondsbury is a large business park immediately off the M5 at Junction 16, and it is one of the easiest addresses in the region for a vehicle to reach.

Emersons Green and the Bristol and Bath Science Park sit east off the M32 and the ring road, and Cribbs Causeway to the north-west is retail with its own service-yard arrangements. Down in the centre, Temple Quay and the Harbourside are offices with reception booking rather than loading bays, and St Philip's Marsh and the Feeder Road corridor hold the trade units closest to the middle of the city.

Covered on the same run

These sit on or beside the Bristol route and are served on the same route. Quote them with the job rather than as a second booking. Bath has its own Class C clean air zone.

Bristol courier questions

Only if a charge applies to the vehicle running your job.

Yes, and it is one of the more common destinations on this route. Avonmouth and Severnside are reached off the M5 at Junctions 17 and 18 without going near the city.

Yes. Most of them are secured sites with a gatehouse, so a pass, an occupier name and a named recipient matter more than the street.

Yes, and it usually prices as a drop on the same run rather than a second booking.

Yes. We can collect anywhere in the UK, normally within 90 minutes, so a Bristol collection running east or north is quoted on the same basis as a delivery into the city.

It depends on the distance, the vehicle, the timing and the access at both ends. To see how a quote is built, See how same-day courier pricing works.
