Same-day courier to Manchester
Rapid Despatch delivers to Manchester by dedicated vehicle, around 195 miles from our nearest branch. There is no Manchester depot. We are an independent courier company trading since 2001, with four branches in Hampshire and Berkshire, covering Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, and around 50 drivers.
A genuine trunk run: one vehicle, one driver, from the Thames Valley to a Manchester address without the consignment touching a depot. Long, and completely accountable.

Rapid Despatch runs same-day courier jobs to Manchester by dedicated vehicle, 195 miles by road on the M40 and the M6.
A dedicated vehicle collects your consignment and drives it the whole way, with nothing transferred and nothing sorted en route. This is a long run and we do not pretend otherwise: the drive alone is around three and a half hours on a clear motorway, so a Manchester delivery needs an early collection or a realistic evening arrival. The controller tells you which when you book.
Where the vehicle comes from
A Manchester job is usually allocated at our Reading branch, and the controller confirms it on the day. Which vehicle actually runs depends on where the nearest available driver is when you ring.
At 195 miles this is one of the longest same-day movements we quote, and the honest position is that the clock, not the map, decides whether it works.
Three and a half hours, and where it goes wrong
The run is the A34 to the M40, the M42 around Birmingham, then the M6 north. Around 195 miles, and on a clear motorway roughly three and a half hours before anything happens at either end.
Two stretches decide whether that holds. The M6 through the West Midlands is the first, and the M6 Toll is the deliberate alternative when a deadline is tight. The second is the approach into Greater Manchester itself, where the M60 ring and the M56 carry heavy commuter traffic at both ends of the day.
None of which is a reason to be vague. If the consignment is tied to a production stoppage, a shift change, a flight or a customer already waiting, tell the controller the genuine latest acceptable arrival. On a run this long that number decides whether we accept the job at all, and we would rather decline than fail.
What carries it, and how the price is built
Manchester work runs the full range, from a small van with a single urgent component to a Luton or tail-lift vehicle with palletised freight. On a run this long the vehicle choice matters more than usual, because the wrong one means a second journey.

What the cover is
On a dedicated vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes anywhere in the UK, account holders are covered to a maximum of £25,000. On other services, liability is limited to the value of the goods, the cost of repairing them, or £1,000 per tonne on gross weight, whichever is lowest.
Higher cover can usually be arranged before collection at an additional charge. A consignment worth a long dedicated run is often worth more than the standard limit, so declare the value when you book rather than afterwards.
Delivering into Manchester
Trafford Park, and why the postcode will not do
Trafford Park is one of the largest industrial estates in Europe and it behaves like a town rather than an estate. It has its own internal road network, its own numbered avenues and roads, and units that share a postcode across a very large area.
A driver arriving with a company name and a postcode can be a mile from the door. What fixes it is the avenue or road name, the unit number, and the gate the entrance comes off, plus a mobile for somebody on site.
The same discipline applies at Salford Quays, Sharston, Openshaw, Wythenshawe and the estates around the M60. Most run a gatehouse, several run booking systems, and none of them will guess who your delivery is for.
The city centre, the trams and the clean air position
Manchester city centre restricts vehicles more than a map suggests. Metrolink tram tracks run through streets that look drivable, several areas are bus and tram priority, and the Mancunian Way carries traffic that has no way of stopping on it.
For a city-centre delivery, the loading arrangement matters as much as the address: where the van is meant to stop, any time window the building enforces, and a contact who can come down.
Greater Manchester's clean air arrangements have been revised more than once and it operates no charging zone today (the seven English zones are listed by GOV.UK), so we check the current position before quoting rather than repeating what was true a year ago.
What a Manchester run is usually attached to
A same-day vehicle to Manchester is not a casual purchase, and the jobs reflect that.
A production line stopped for want of one component. A machine down with an engineer already on site. Air freight with a cut-off at the World Freight Terminal by the airport. A broadcast or event deadline at MediaCity or one of the arenas. Legal and financial documents into Spinningfields with a signing time.
Every one of those has a moment after which the delivery has no value. Tell us that moment and we will tell you honestly whether the vehicle allocated to your job can meet it.
Air freight is the least forgiving of them. A handling agent's cut-off is fixed, missing it by minutes puts the consignment on tomorrow's aircraft, and no amount of urgency afterwards recovers the day. Give us the cut-off rather than the delivery address and the run is built backwards from it.
Areas covered on northern work
Manchester and Greater Manchester are covered on the Manchester run itself. The wider North West is covered on the same route on the same northern corridor, quoted individually rather than as one journey.

Manchester courier questions
Yes, and the right one depends on where the consignment starts. For something already in the North West, a Manchester operator will be quicker and cheaper.
It depends on the distance, the vehicle, the timing and the access at both ends. See what a dedicated vehicle actually costs and why
That is decided by the ready time more than by us. Three and a half hours of clear motorway sits in the middle of the job, with collection before it and site access after.
Yes, if it does not have to arrive today. An overnight or timed next-day service costs a fraction of a dedicated 195-mile run and suits well-packed goods that can travel through a network.
The avenue or road name, the unit number, the gate the entrance comes off and a mobile for somebody on site. Trafford Park shares postcodes across a very large area with its own internal road network, so a company name and a postcode can leave a driver a mile from the right door.
Yes, priced exactly as the northbound run is.

For something urgent, call 0345 8333 833, and lead with when the goods will be ready rather than the address. On a 195-mile run that is the fact that decides everything. For planned work, use the quote form with both postcodes and the deadline.
